Start With What’s Been Working Well
Start with the positive. Acknowledge your commitment to helping the employee succeed and point out some of their positive contributions. Share that there are opportunities for improvement. Give examples of what didn’t work and how it could be done better. Work together to agree upon an action plan with regularly scheduled check-ins so the employee feels supported and encouraged going forward.
